2001
Ford Puma

The 2001 Ford Puma represents the grand finale of a compact coupe that punchily redefined the front-wheel-drive driving experience of its era. Based on the agile Fiesta chassis but tuned with a significantly stiffer suspension and wider track, the 2001 model year showcased the car’s "New Edge" design language at its most refined. While the high-strung 1.7-liter Zetec-S VCT engine—co-developed with Yamaha—remained the heart of the car, delivering a rev-happy 123 hp, this final year was also notable for the Thunder special edition. These late-production units were draped in premium Moondust Silver or Magnum Grey paint and featured a plush Silverstone leather interior, elevating the car's cabin to match its razor-sharp handling. Although production ceased in 2001 to make way for the StreetKa, the original Puma left a lasting legacy as a "driver’s car" in a small package, celebrated for its short-throw gearbox and telepathic steering that remains a benchmark for affordable performance today.
